Services & Use Cases

Infrastructure services for open, sovereign research data

Ekayana runs persistent identifier infrastructure for research and heritage data, covering registration, storage, metadata extraction, and discovery. The six services below share one stack, and they are designed to fit the repositories your institution already runs rather than replace them.

Services

Service catalog

Each service composes with the others: an identifier registered in one flow is harvested, indexed, and resolvable in the rest. Public resolution and open metadata are free for everyone, member or not.

Use cases

Who uses this, and how

Ekayana is a non-profit membership organization. The communities below use the same infrastructure through different membership models. See how membership works, the fee schedule, or the founding network.

Researchers

Researcher tier, free

Upload data to IPFS, mint identifiers, and run BioAgents on your own papers without an institutional agreement. The free tier covers 100 registrations a year, 5 GB of pinned storage, and basic extraction. When a lab outgrows it, membership continues at the institutional level.

Repositories and libraries

Institutional Member

Register at scale and bridge existing holdings from Dataverse, Zenodo, and local systems, with every dataset keeping its DOI. The annual service fee covers up to 100,000 registrations a year and 100 GB of replicated storage.

Universities and institutions

Institutional Member

One identifier infrastructure for every faculty, lab, and archive, under institutional control and aligned with European data sovereignty requirements. Institutional Members also receive knowledge-graph insights, member only APIs, and a vote in governance.

Consortia and networks

Consortium

National networks and shared platforms coordinate a single membership through a Consortium Lead. Participating organizations pay no membership fee of their own and share costs on terms the consortium sets. Start with a membership inquiry.

Build on infrastructure your community governs

Members steer the roadmap, vote on governance, and keep their research data sovereign. Start a conversation with the community team, or go straight to the technical documentation.
